The Old Excise House is situated on the coast at Laphroaig, near the world famous whisky distillery of that name, only a few miles from the Port Ellen ferry terminal. This family run bed and breakfast has recently been renovated to a high standard to ensure that you have a comfortable and memorable holiday on islay. The property was built by Laphroaig distillery in 1906 to be used as a home for their Excise Officers.
Guest accommodation is on the first floor to make the most of the superb sea views. The Laphroaig room has superking/twin beds and an en-suite traditional bathroom with roll top bath. Texa room has king size double bed with a contemporary en-suite shower room. Each room offers satellite TV, free internet connection, tea and coffee tray with homemade biscuits and fresh milk, hairdryer. The Guests breakfast/sitting room is the perfect place to relax, by the wood burning stove, with plenty of books and games available.
The Old Excise House is a non smoking property and unfortunately cannot take pets. If both the rooms are booked together we can accommodate children, a cot bed and inflatable extra bed are available. Special diets including gluten free are catered for, please ask for details. As much local produce as possible is utilised, along with homemade cakes, biscuits and preserves.
Golf tuition is available from one of the hosts, Ron, a PGA qualified golf professional who teaches at The Machrie Championship golf course a few miles away, near the airport.
The rate for either room is £45 per person per night for bed and breakfast.
